The GROW Network has developed a special partnership with Beechgrove Elementary through a backpack program and educational support through an after-school program. The after-school program is a collaboration with City Gospel’s Whiz Kids program, Beechgrove Elementary School, and the GROW Network. City Gospel Whiz Kids provides the support and the tools to help us offer this program. The program primarily focuses on literacy. The school helps to identify children whose reading skills are slightly behind their peers and connects these families to GROW. Research shows that students who are unable to read by 4th grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. Once an individual learns to read, they begin to read to learn. While the focus is on literacy, we are also building strong relationships with kids and their families, as well as the entire community. Often individuals have more college credit than they realize due to prior learning and transfer credits.
